Grading
Take Home Folders will have Graded Papers. Usually, they will come home every Friday; however, important papers may on occasion be sent home during the week. Study Guides and Tests need to be kept in subject folders for review. We keep the math study guides and tests in our classroom. Students use them to study for Benchmark tests and the CRCT. Report Cards are sent home every 9 weeks. You can always check grades on the Parent Portal.

Classroom Management - So far this year, my students have followed rules quite well. After the winter break, I've noticed some behaviors that are not appropriate for school so we are implementing this classroom management plan. During the first week, we will work on establishing a collaborative classroom. I feel it is important to create an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. We will work hard to build a sense of community and emphasize the idea of teamwork. I am a firm believer that the best learning takes place in this type of environment. I look forward to working together in order to make thvery successful school year for your child (academically, socially, and emotionally).
Every week there will be a new TEAM CAPTAIN for each pod of desks. They will be responsible for specific jobs such as collecting papers, passing out team materials, and making sure the team is working together to keep their area clean and organized.
A new Teacher's Helper is chosen everyday. The teacher's helper takes the lunch count to the cafeteria, carries recess equipment out, and helps Mrs. Fordham with other tasks during the day.
All students are responsible for helping to keep our classroom running smoothly so we can have the best possible learning environment for all students!
Lunch (time TBD) and Snack (time TBD) Please put money for lunch in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and my name. Remember you can prepay online! Snack will be in the morning. Please provide a healthy snack for your child each day.
Birthdays: You may bring treats for your child's homeroom class for lunch or morning snack.
NEW! FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE TROUBLE GETTING WORK IN ON TIME:
B.E.E. (Bring Everything Everyday) Book This 3-ring binder will include the Student Agenda and Take Home folder. Other forms may also be kept in the binder. Gone are the days of wrinkled papers, lost notes, and missing homework! Everything you need is in one notebook! B.E.E. Books are important! They help students to establish good organizational skills - - - - - - - skills that can carry on throughout their time in school. Take Home Folder Along with the agenda - your child will have a Take Home Folder that will come home and needs to be brought back to school everyday. Important notes, lunch money, papers done in class, and forms not sent in the Friday Folders will be sent home in the orange folder. Homework will be sent in the folder and will need to be completed and returned in folder the next day. The pocket folders should be marked to indicate if the paperwork is to be filled out and brought “RIGHT Back to School” or if it needs to be “LEFT at Home.”
Agenda The agenda is a great communication tool. Your child will write weekly spelling words and a daily homework in the agenda. I may also write notes to you and you may communicate small notes to me as well. Please do not send transportation changes in the agenda.
Homework Homework will be sent home Monday-Thursday. If your child has trouble turning homework in, then it would be helpful for you to sign the agenda to verify that the homework was completed. Return all homework the next day (except for special projects). Homework completion counts for 5% of the final grade. Homework is given to reinforce and/or review skills. If you find that your child is having difficulty with a concept or spending an extra long time on homework, please let me know with an email or note in the agenda.
Absences If your child is absent due to a sickness, please send a note when he/she returns in order for the absence to be excused. Make-up work for the day(s) missed will be sent home. It is to your child's benefit to make-up missed work.
